Galaxy S4 sales top six million

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has entered the record books by officially becoming the fastest selling Android smartphone of all time, at least until the Galaxy S5 arrives in 2014.
It sold four million units in the four days after its April 29th release and went on to surpass six million sales by May 10th, according to an interview given to South Korean publication, Chosun, by a Samsung executive.
This spokesperson even claimed that the Galaxy S4 could have reached the 10 million sales milestone by the end of the month.
Last year, the Galaxy S3 was a real blockbuster smartphone hit, selling 20 million units in its first 100 days on the market, which is a record that the Galaxy S4 looks set to smash, if things progress along the current trajectory.
Samsung is starting to see its flagship smartphones attain the same level of pre-release hype as the Apple iPhone, which is helping to boost early sales and provide impressive statistics throughout the following year.
This is perhaps more impressive for Samsung because it also produces a wide range of other Android handsets, rather than focusing solely on a single flagship device.
The strong sales for the Galaxy S4 also show that there is a desire amongst the mobile buying public, both in the UK and elsewhere, to get the biggest and best handsets as soon as they go on sale.
While some observers have suggested that the smartphone market is reaching saturation point, which could cause sales of new devices to slide, Samsung seems to be bucking this trend.
It will be interesting to see how the Galaxy S4's continued success is going to impact the market for selling old mobile phones, because if it is convincing people to upgrade, then it might be quite the catalyst.
