Gadget Show presenter bigs up mobile phone recycling

Suzi Perry, the presenter of Channel 5's Gadget Show, has gone on the record to talk about the importance of recycling old mobile phones in the UK.
Perry said that although in the past there was a lack of awareness and availability of mobile recycling services, today things are very different and there is no good reason for consumers to simply discard their old mobiles in an environmentally damaging fashion.
Perry also pointed out that there are greener choices to make when you buy a new mobile phone, arguing that people can upgrade from an inefficient old model, for something which is modern and greener than the previous generation, without sacrificing any functionality in the process.
There are many industry experts like Perry who argue that leaving a gadget dormant after its useful lifespan has ended is not a particularly environmentally friendly thing to do. Instead she says that people should recycle all of their old electronic goods, including mobile phones, according to Mazuma Mobile.
Many companies and network providers are encouraging consumers to recycle their phones in order to be greener, but Suzi Perry believes that consumers still have to be convinced of the benefits to ensure that there is a lasting change in habits.
Recycling is big business, with new legislation being enforced by the European Environment Council which will see members of the EU required to reuse and collect at least 45 per cent of the products sold in their regions by weight.
Not everyone is interested in recycling, but with mobile phones there is the added incentive of converting your old phone into cash and freeing up some space in your drawers and cupboards, while also doing the environment a favour, all in one swift, eminently green movement.
