Fujitsu debuts handset with quad core processor

Although Fujitsu is not the biggest name in the mobile manufacturing market, it has shown that it can build high end handsets with the best of them this week at the Consumer Electronics Show.
It pulled back the curtains on a next generation smartphone, although this handset and its other emerging contemporaries are being referred to as superphones, because of their class-leading hardware.
A quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.2GHz is the driving force behind this as yet unnamed prototype handset. It also features a 4.6 inch screen, with a high definition resolution of 1280x720.
Android 4.0 is the operating system that harnesses the hardware to run smoothly and Fujitsu went perhaps a little overboard with the prototype by sticking 4GB of RAM onboard, about four times the amount you should expect to see when the final retail version is released.
Although this superphone will not be able to match the HTC Titan II's 16 megapixel camera, it does have a 13 megapixel snapper of its own on the rear, as well as an HDMI output, so that you can use it in tandem with your TV.
Fujitsu also showed how you could control the phone using a Bluetooth gamepad, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to play graphically complex mobile games, without having to rely on touchscreen controls.
All of this hardware does mean that the Fujitsu superphone is a little bulkier than some other handsets, but the manufacturer has actually worked hard to make the phone resistant to dust, dirt and damage, so it should at least be able to protect its precious innards.
There is no word on when this model will launch in the UK, but Japanese consumers may be able to buy it from the middle of 2012.
