Fairphone 3 Launched to Improve Mobile Sustainability

Recyclability and upgradability have been important aspects of the Fairphone family, with the first two generations of this range offering ethically sourced materials to go along with the long-term benefits already mentioned.
Now the third iteration has touched down and it is easily the best of the bunch, with a host of impressive features that should make it more practical and appealing on an aesthetic level as well as sticking to the core principles of its predecessors.
ZDNet reports that the Fairphone 3 runs the latest version of its own-brand operating system, which in turn is based on Android. This means it has plenty of apps to offer and also promises to provide ongoing updates to provide security improvements and other tweaks for at least the next half decade.
Up front is a 5.7 inch screen, while under the skin it has 64GB of storage, a 3000mAh battery and the Snapdragon 632 chipset from Qualcomm. It may not be the fastest device in the world, but that is not the point: it aims to be snappy enough for everyday use while easing the conscience of customers who want to still use a smartphone without having to put up with the ethical and environmental issues involved in ordering a handset from many other manufacturers.
Where the Fairphone 3 really stands out is in its reparability. It is easy to unscrew the various components and repair or replace them without too much hassle.
This will also mean that when the time comes to do away with the device, it should be very simple to recycle and will not create the same level of challenge that plenty of rival handsets pose to recycling companies. The only downside is the £400 price tag for a phone that lacks the power of equivalently expensive rivals.
