Extension of Mobile Recycling Schemes Announced by Apple

iPhone maker Apple has spent the past few years radically changing its approach to e-waste and sustainability, with its latest announcement this month revealing that it will be dramatically increasing the number of facilities at which its products can be recycled once they reach the end of their usable life.
The official unveiling of the recycling scheme expansion plans confirmed that it has already processed around one million old mobile phones thanks to the development of its recycling robot, affectionately known as Daisy.
Furthermore, Apple said that it was managing to refurbish almost eight million devices annually, meaning that close to 50,000 tonnes of e-waste are being saved from ending up in landfill sites as a result.
There is not just one Daisy handset disassembly robot but a growing fleet of them which are being installed at various recycling centres around the world. Each machine is able to convert 1.2 million old handsets into their constituent parts so that the precious materials within can be reclaimed each year, so there is clearly even more capacity for recycling than is being used at the moment.
The next step is to make sure that customers of Apple are aware of their recycling options and that more people choose to take advantage of the scheme that the manufacturer has put in place.
Of course, it is also worth noting that Apple is not the only organisation vying for the attention of consumers who want to sell old mobile phones. With a burgeoning recycling market, people can pick and choose between the offers that are available in order to extract the maximum value from their outdated devices.
iPhone handsets tend to hold on to their value better than any other type of mobile, so comparing offers is definitely important for Apple fans.
