Envirofone secures recycling award

The results of the Mobile Choice Consumer Awards were announced this month and the prize for the best recycling organisation was handed to Envirofone, which is also the largest firm of its kind currently operating in the UK.
There was hot competition for the gong, with Envirofone going up against other major names in the industry, including Mazuma and O2 Recycle. But it managed to achieve more votes from Mobile Choice readers, allowing it to take home the award during a ceremony held in central London.
Over the last half decade, over £160 million in payments have been made to Envirofone customers who sold their old mobile phones so that they could be recycled. This equates to about four million people from across the UK parting ways with their unwanted devices and represents a significant volume of electronic waste being rescued from landfill.
Honourable mentions were made of EE Recycle, which provides free postage for any customer who sends in a handset, as well as O2 Recycle, which has been using money generated to help fund a variety of initiatives across the country under its Think Big campaign.
Some of the recycling companies which were up for the award do not just allow users to sell old mobile phones, but also accept a wider variety of used gadgets, paying a good price for many devices which would otherwise be left to gather dust or simply sent to the tip.
While industry awards are obviously important, it is worth remembering that all of the big name recycling firms in the UK have achieved their success by offering good service to large numbers of customers. So by comparing potential payouts and other features, you can work out which firm is right for you when you want to part ways with your old mobile.
