Engagement Ring Made from Recycled Phones Helps Couple Celebrate in Style

When the time to upgrade an old phone arrives, many people will sell their mobile or pass it on to someone else in their social circle who needs it. Not so for James and Hayley, a couple from the UK who recently got engaged using a ring that was fashioned from outdated devices that helped to kindle their relationship in the first place.
The Mirror reports that the pair originally met through online dating app Tinder and that their relationship flourished over the years, making the recent engagement an inevitability.
Rather than opting for a more traditional engagement ring, the couple instead commissioned a craftsperson to take a number of components from a duo of iPhone 5s handsets which had been instrumental in the beginnings of their time together.
In place of a precious stone, the centrepiece of the ring is the main camera from one of the phones. Elsewhere, components used include the microphones which received their voices and the speakers which allowed them to talk with one another, once they had got past the point of simply sending instant messages.
This is a fairly novel approach to making a proposal, yet it holds a lot of relevance in the modern age when there is widespread agreement about the need to make technology much more sustainable and avoid the waste that is often associated with the industry.
Recycling old mobile phones and repurposing the materials and components they contain so that they can be used again is an important step towards a more eco-friendly future, so perhaps this news story will kick-start a trend. If more couples are encouraged to commemorate their engagements in such a special way, it will be seriously beneficial in more ways than one.
