Consumers advised to recycle phones in time for Christmas 2010

People across the UK are getting set to spend tens of billions of pounds on the winter festivities this year and experts are advising that one great way to bag extra cash is to recycle your old mobile phones. This makes even more sense if you are going to be getting a new handset as a gift or if you have a range of mobiles from Christmases past that are gathering dust in your draws.
A recent survey found that 84 per cent of households in the UK have one or more mobiles which are no longer in use and consequently ripe for recycling. There has never been a better time to sell off your old handsets, particularly if you have aging smartphones, because the average recycling pay-off for this type of mobile has risen by 68 per cent as demand grows.
With many different recycling firms operating, it is sensible to shop around for the best price when selling your phone. However, it has been reported that although a vast majority of UK consumers know about mobile recycling, around a fifth will fail to search for the best deal and simply sell at the first price they are given, while those who do not sell their mobiles tend to pass them on to family members.
As the Christmas period approaches, it is clear that you might want to work out what type of price you should expect to get for your mobile. At the moment the handsets which are holding their value are the high end smartphones like the iPhone 4, iPhone 3G S and HTC Desire, while at the other end of the market the most basic, outdated mobiles like the Nokia 2210 and the Samsung C120 will net you the cost of a pint of milk.
