Cancer charity seeking mobile recycling donations

Many mobile phone recycling initiatives allow you to donate the value of your old handset to charity, rather than recouping it for yourself and now Macmillan Cancer Support is urging people to pass on unwanted, outdated models, to support its worthy cause.
Charity spokesperson, Sally Millington, explained that using mobile phone recycling to raise money was one of the best contemporary ways to help a cause gain financial traction. This is largely because there is no upfront cost for the donating public, who might otherwise have simply left their old mobiles unused in a drawer at home or dumped them in the bin wastefully.
Macmillan Cancer Support is also looking to get donations of old printer ink cartridges, which can be worth around 60 pence each, but are also, sadly, sent off to landfill far more regularly than is actually necessary.
Millington said that on average, a charity is able to gain about £3.60 for old mobile phones which are sent in by supporters.
However, the value of each handset can vary, as anyone who has compared mobile phone recycling online will realise. This means that your donated mobile could net this particular charity, or whichever organisation you choose to support, quite a generous sum, depending on its make, model, age and condition.
Macmillan Cancer Support is almost entirely reliant on the donations of the public, to help provide aid to those who are suffering from the disease, as well as helping out their families during the tougher times.
An alternative to donating direct to a charity, particularly if you believe that you might get a better price for your old phone online, is to simply check out the various deals from recycling companies and then get the cash yourself, passing on whatever amount you feel you can afford to a good cause.
