Budget Xperia handset inbound from Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson is bringing the Xperia Ray smartphone to the UK in a few months, partnering with network provider Three, to give users on a budget yet another way to enter the world of Android.
While the Xperia Ray will be at the more affordable end of the smartphone scale, it is no slouch when it comes to style or performance. Its slim body houses a 1GHz processor and an eight megapixel camera with high def video capture capabilities.
The display is only 3.3 inches across the diagonal, but it should have more than enough space for web browsing and media playback, given that it is only a couple of fractions smaller than the iPhone 4's screen, albeit with a lower resolution.
Onboard storage of 300MB is not that impressive, but a microSD memory card slot and bundled card should help make up the difference. Video calling is facilitated by a forward facing camera, so, in all, the Xperia Pay seems to be a well rounded package.
Android 2.3 is preinstalled on the Xperia Ray, presumably with a bit of third party dabbling from Sony Ericsson to make it feel unique. A bespoke media player exclusive to Sony Ericsson is set to be onboard, allowing for enhanced interaction with all your music and movies.
The Xperia Ray is likely to appeal to the youth market with its blend of black and bold colours on the outside, while its well chosen internal hardware will make Android feel fast and responsive.
Although the Xperia Ray is confirmed for a UK launch on Three there is no concrete date for its arrival, only a ballpark estimate of the third quarter. However, when it does land it is likely to do well thanks to its impressive specs sheet.
