Black Friday highlights importance of mobile phone recycling

This week sees the return of Black Friday for another year, bringing with it buckets of bargains, both online and in store. Unsurprisingly, some of the most popular items likely to be sold are smartphones, with major discounts eagerly anticipated.
Serious savings expected in the mobile market not only apply to the handsets themselves, but also to contract deals which include free phones. Now outlets, including Carphone Warehouse, are cutting hundreds of pounds off existing offers to placate cost-cutting consumers looking for a steal.
Everything from the iPhone 7 to the Huawei P10 will be offered at a lower price than usual for a limited time, according to Tech Radar. Because of this, plenty of people will either choose to upgrade their device on Black Friday, or snap up a deal which they can gift to a friend or loved one when Christmas rolls around next month.
This has raised concerns about the numbers of old devices which will be rendered redundant on November 24th, or perhaps even earlier as a result of pre-offers being made available by retailers.
The rapidity with which the upgrade cycle has been increasing in recent years means that annual replacements for cutting edge handsets are not uncommon across the UK. But even with the money which can be saved on Black Friday, consumers can still be missing out on a lot of cash if they choose to keep their old smartphones at home where they end up covered in dust and forgotten.
Selling old mobiles is the best way to make the most of Black Friday, as it means that great deals can be made even better and upgrades are easier to justify, while also making any tech purchase more environmentally sustainable than would otherwise be possible.
