Apple widens iPhone recycling scheme

Apple is continuing to take mobile phone recycling seriously, as this month, it was announced that it has expanded its official scheme to include Canada, ahead of its arrival in yet more countries later this year.
The American firm revealed that it would be offering customers who bring their old iPhones into one of its retail outlets the chance to get money off their next handset, if they relinquish their outgoing device.
This recycling offer will be worth up to $275 (£165), depending on the model of iPhone that is traded in, as well as the condition of the device.
Of course, anyone who has been keeping an eye on the mobile recycling market will realise that this is not, in fact, the best possible price that can be achieved for an old iPhone, with newer iterations going for significantly more when consumers choose to use a third party recycling firm.
Interestingly, CB News reveals that Apple has offered a recycling service to customers in Canada and elsewhere around the globe in the past, but has not incentivised it with any kind of payment until now.
This means customers could have posted Apple their outdated device solely to make sure that it was responsibly disposed of, without any form of remuneration. It would be interesting to know just how many people actually did this, although Apple is unlikely to release the figures.
People who live in the UK have a whole host of options when it comes to recycling old mobile phones, from passing them on to friends and family, selling them to dealers or sending them off to be recycled. And you do not need to have a high end iPhone to get cash for your phone, as almost any old device can be exchanged for some dough.
