Apple boosts green credentials with new recycling drive

Electronics giant, Apple, has had a hand in shaping the tech market over many decades, although it has not always been in the good books of environmental campaigners in the past.
Thankfully, it is looking to improve its reputation and become more sustainable as a result of a new initiative which will enable customers to easily recycle a wide range of unwanted gadgets and gizmos through its global channels.
As well as being able to part ways with old iPhones, iPads and iPods, Apple will be enabling people to recycle devices from third party manufacturers, which it has not always allowed.
Apple revealed its intention to become more sustainable as part of Earth Day, which took place this week and encouraged millions of people across the world to reduce the amount of electricity they are using, for the betterment of the environment and society in general.
Ninety five per cent of the nations in which Apple sells its products are being included in the rollout of its new recycling scheme. And it also pointed out that in the past two decades, it has prevented 191 million kilos of e-waste from being dumped at landfill sites, thanks to its various recycling efforts.
Users who want to recycle products created by companies other than Apple will not have to pay a penny for the use of the service. And of course, Apple has its own incentive in place to encourage customers to sell their old iPhones to get money off the purchase of a new model in-store.
Both consumers and businesses are eligible for the scheme in many countries around the world, which given the extent of Apple?s empire, is a not insignificant feat. So, hopefully, this will raise awareness of recycling, in conjunction with Earth Day.
