Android Ice Cream Sandwich update arriving within 2 months

Google will be releasing the next version of its Android mobile operating system, subtitled Ice Cream Sandwich, in October or November of this year, according to head honcho, Eric Schmidt.
Ice Cream Sandwich is set to be an amalgamation of elements from the smartphone-friendly Android 2.3 platform and the tablet-oriented Android 3.0 software, which is good news for mobile users who want to get a deeper experience on their handsets.
Google is looking to provide a more cohesive experience with Android, hence the necessity of combining two platforms to make one universal operating system.
In other Android news, it now looks almost certain that Samsung is going to be responsible for the Nexus Prime smartphone, Google's fifth Android-brand handset, which will arrive with the new operating system before the end of the year.
According to PocketNow, the Nexus Prime will probably have a Super AMOLED Plus display and could follow closely in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy SII in terms of hardware.
A dual core processor seems likely to be a major feature of the phone, although the clock speed is as yet unknown. The 1.2GHz chip in the Galaxy SII might be replaced with a 1.5GHz monster which has recently been featured in the Samsung Galaxy Note tablet hybrid.
Combining brand new hardware with cutting edge software will definitely help Google bring some high-end sheen to the Android family in the run-up to Christmas.
Of course with a fifth iPhone model being launched in roughly the same period by Apple, Google will have a tough fight on its hands if it wants to remain competitive at the top end of the market.
The autumn is looking like one of the most exciting launch windows for new handsets, so selling your old mobile phone will help offset the cost of an upgrade.
