Android 4.0 update destined for LG Optimus 2X

People who invested in the dual core LG Optimus 2X earlier in the year can rejoice at the news that the manufacturer is definitely launching an Android 4.0 update package for the handset in the next few months.
LG used its Facebook page to confirm that the Optimus 2X is indeed going to receive Android Ice Cream Sandwich, as it is otherwise known.
Some sources had claimed that LG was going to hold off on the Android 4.0 update indefinitely, but it seems that such speculation actually drove the company to make a commitment to its eventual release, in order to reassure users that their smartphone will not be behind the curve in terms of software.
LG said in a statement that it is also bringing Android 4.0 to a number of its other range topping smartphones, which is good news for all fans of this firm.
Interestingly, the LG Optimus 2X has been languishing with Android 2.2 ever since it arrived earlier in the year and the update which will bring it up to version 2.3 is set to launch later this month, so LG is not likely to be in a rush to adapt Google's latest platform.
The Optimus 2X was the world's fastest smartphone for a brief period, before being knocked off the top spot by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation, whose 1.2GHz chips outdid LG's 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU.
Those who want to get Android 4.0 as soon as possible will have to sell their old mobile phone and invest in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is set to be the flagship handset supporting the software. The Optimus 2X should still fetch a decent amount when you recycle it online, provided you compare prices.
