The latest report from TechNavio, suggests that the international market for eco-friendly mobiles and the phone recycling industry will grow by just over 19 per cent by the year 2015.
Analysts believe that one of the main reasons for the increasing rates of mobile phone recycling is that consumers are actually buying new handsets and upgrading on a more regular basis.
The report also found that mobile industry regulators are taking a tougher stance on safety and sustainability, which means new devices are more likely to live up to eco expectations than those released in the past.
On the downside, the growth of mobile ownership and turnover in emerging markets is becoming an issue because there is a lack of awareness about the dangers of electronic waste in these regions of the world.
While western consumers may by now be familiar with the need to recycle old mobile phones or reuse them responsibly, this message has not been widely disseminated elsewhere.
Experts point out that this state of affairs might adversely impact the real terms growth rate of the market, which is why various companies and public bodies need to act fast to avert the mounting disaster of mobile waste.
People in the UK will of course find it easy to recycle their old mobile phone by selling it online and getting a bit of cash back in return.
You will also have access to a wide pool of information about the activities of particular mobile phone manufacturers, which can help to guide your buying decision if you're looking to do business with an environmentally friendly company.
Firms like Nokia are often praised for their green efforts, although many other companies have less auspicious approaches to making sure that their devices are created sustainably.
