Acer debuts affordable NFC smartphone
Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - 10:01:27
The Acer Liquid Express smartphone has just been launched and it promises to bring contactless payments to the masses, thanks to its affordable pricing and built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) chip.
Of course NFC has been available to mobile users in the UK for almost 12 months thanks to the Google Nexus S, but unless you wanted to invest in a high end handset you would have to do without this cutting edge feature.
The Liquid Express is a far more modest model, sporting a single core 800MHz processor, a five megapixel camera and version 2.3 of the Android operating system. This is still more than enough hardware to make the phone feel slick and easy to use, proving that you can get a lot of mobile for your money ahead of Christmas 2011.
NFC will allow users to use their smartphone like a digital wallet, making it possible to buy products and services in any shop or outlet that has a compatible NFC terminal at the till.
NFC is still a particularly niche aspect of modern mobile technology, but it is set to become far more prevalent in 2012 thanks to mid range models like the Acer Express Liquid making it available to a mainstream audience.
This mobile has just become available in the UK and you can get it on a contract deal costing you around £15 a month over a two year fixed term. There is no word on its SIM free pricing for those who want to buy it upfront and pair it with their own SIM card, but it should be at the lower end of the scale.
If you want to invest in the Acer Liquid Express and its NFC capabilities then you could sell your old mobile phone in order to offset the costs.
