3D smartphone from LG hinted

It seems almost certain that South Korean mobile manufacturer LG will be debuting a smartphone capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D effects at Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month.
This news has emerged after members of the press were presented with invitations to an event at MWC hosted by LG. On the invites, an ambiguous black handset was shown, along with the suggestion that its launch will take mobiles into a new dimension, which is easily construed as indicating that this launch will involve a 3D smartphone.
It was recently discovered by the tech site AllAboutPhones, which is based in Holland, that LG has recently applied to copyright the moniker 'Optimus 3D' and this invitation only fuels the fires of speculation surrounding the soon to be announced smartphone.
During the Consumer Electronics Show in January, a 4.3 inch display with glasses-free 3D capabilities was shown off by LG and this would be a great match for an Optimus 3D handset.
MWC is going to be a busy event for LG as it has also been revealed that the firm is planning to unveil a 3D-ready tablet, potentially called the Optimus Pad.
LG is going all-out to promote its Optimus range of various flagship products, following in the footsteps of the Galaxy range from Samsung and the use of the 'i' prefix by Apple.
Many people will first experience 3D displays not in the form of 3D TVs but in portable devices where the costs are much lower as the display sizes are smaller. The Nintendo 3DS is due out this spring and there are already glasses-free 3D mobiles on the market in Asia, but the UK will probably have to wait for the Optimus 3D to get their first taste of the tech in mobile form.
