£51.3 billion valuation for recycling industry

The recycling industry pumps about £51.3 billion into the European economy every year, according to a new study conducted by the European Environment Agency, looking into the benefits of reusing waste materials that might otherwise be sent to landfill.
In the study it was concluded that the developing economy surrounding the green industries is becoming increasingly important and should be a focus for any policy making which goes on within EU nations.
In the four years between 2004 and 2008, the value of the recycling industry doubled and despite a dip during the recession of 2008 and 2009, it looks like it is back on track to grow over the coming years.
People are increasingly turning to recycled goods because a booming Asian market is making raw materials more expensive and so reusing is being conducted wherever possible.
A 45 per cent increase in recycling-related employment between 2000 and 2007 is seen as being a real indicator that taking the green route with all products, from old mobile phones to used milk cartons, is the best way to create jobs and benefit the economy.
The report points to the fact that raw materials such as paper, card and metal are regularly recycled in order to meet demand and that this will also be occurring to an increasing degree within the mobile phone industry.
Typical mobile phones have expensive materials embedded within them which can be expensive to source and extract in their raw form. However, by recycling old handsets it is possible to reuse these materials cheaply and effectively, making things better for everyone.
This is also the reason why you can earn cash when you sell your old mobile phone, regardless of its condition, because it still contains valuable components which can be recycled for a profit.
